FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
The stuff everyone wonders but doesn't always ask
Do I need a GP referral to see Emily?
GETTING STARTED
Nope — you can book directly online or by email, no referral needed. If you'd like to claim a Medicare rebate, you'll need a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP.
Book directly through the online booking system or by email. A free 15-minute discovery call is available for new clients who'd like to get a feel for things before committing.
How do I book a session?
The first session is mostly about getting to know you. Emily will ask about what's brought you to therapy, what your life looks like, and what you're hoping for. There's no pressure to have everything figured out.
What happens in the first session?
Are you currently accepting new clients?
Yes — new clients are always welcome. Book a free discovery call and Emily will be in touch within one business day.
TELEHEALTH & ONLINE SESSIONS
Do you offer telehealth sessions Australia-wide?
Yes — anywhere in Australia. Whether you're in the city, the suburbs or somewhere distinctly regional, all you need is a private space and decent wifi.
Is telehealth therapy as effective as in-person?
Yes, genuinely. Research consistently shows telehealth therapy is highly effective for a wide range of concerns. Many clients find online sessions more convenient and just as comfortable.
Yes. As of March 2026, Emily offers monthly in-person sessions at Brecken Health in Bunbury. A Perth location is being arranged — updates will be shared as soon as confirmed.
Are in-person sessions available?
FEES & MEDICARE
The full private fee is $220 per session. With a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, the Medicare rebate reduces your out-of-pocket cost to $121.05 per session.
How much does a session cost?
How many Medicare sessions am I entitled to?
Medicare covers up to 10 psychology sessions per calendar year under a Mental Health Care Plan. Your initial plan covers 6 sessions; a GP review allows a further 4.
CONFIDENTIALITY & PRIVACY
Yes. Everything shared in therapy is confidential, with very limited exceptions — specifically where there is risk of serious harm to yourself or others, or where disclosure is required by law.
Are sessions confidential?
Will my GP be informed about what I discuss?
Only in the most general sense. If you're on a Mental Health Care Plan, Emily is required to send your GP a brief progress report at certain points — but this covers overall progress, not the details of what you talk about.
